Helicopter Ride, New York City, May 2013
Well, S decided to gift me an experience for the first anniversary too but he ramped up the romance factor with a surprise helicopter ride over Manhattan at night. We took off from the Jersey side and slowly made our way to Manhattan. Our pilot told us that post 9/11, they were no longer allowed to fly over Manhattan but we would fly alongside it. The helicopter made me feel surprisingly vulnerable and with all its large windows gave you the feeling of floating on nothing.

He had given us the headsets and the mike so we could hear each other clearly over all the noise and as childish as it may be, gave me a very 'pilot' feel. New York City has always fascinated me, something so beautiful about it despite it being a concrete jungle- the lights, the glimmer all make NYC truly stunning. Every time we go to the city, I still want to see Times Square at night despite having seen it umpteen times. This helicopter ride just took the fascination to a whole new level with the city stunning us with her beauty. The icing on the cake was definitely seeing the Statue of Liberty from that vantage point.
There are plenty of options for scenic helicopter rides with many tour companies offering this like this one.
