Season of the Cherry Blossom

Washington D.C, April 2013

When Spring was thinking about rearing her pretty head and sparing us from Winter, we knew we definitely wanted to see the Cherry Blossom trees. Months and months of seeing bare trees only added to the allure. Of course, when one wants to see the Cherry Blossom trees, Washington D.C is the natural choice. With Cherry Blossoms, timing is everything. They are so fleeting barely lasting for a day or two in their full bloom so we needed to be really lucky. There was a park in the New Jersey area where we could see the trees but it was in Newark, what Ross from F.R.I.E.N.D.S fondly calls the 'Murder capital' and we wanted to see the real deal. So off we drove to D.C.

It began on a shaky note when we drove for around 45 minutes trying to find parking. It seemed like the whole of America has descended onto D.C to see these trees! Once we did manage to find a slot, we were rewarded with a sight that was truly worth the hassles. The roads were lined by trees bursting with blossom mostly white but pink in certain cases. It was like pieces of cotton candy on a tree. No matter how many pictures we took, we could not capture the beauty that our eyes were taking in- rows of trees all bursting with life.

As the sun began to set, the colors turned softer and even more enchanting. We waited near the water until the sun set and the colors slowly faded in the dark before we had the heart to head back to our car.

Do not miss the Cherry Blossom festival if you are on the East Coast around April and apparently the fireworks are supposed to be brilliant though we could not catch it!
